Greek team participate in the training course "‘Youth Activism through Solargraphy", in Delta Danube in Romania.
Through a 7-day training course, participants explored how to use Solargraphy not only as a form of artistic expression but also as a practical tool to spark social dialogue, raise awareness on pressing local and global issues, and inspire civic participation among young citizens. This non-formal learning approach encouraged youth workers to move beyond traditional educational methods and embrace do-it-yourself (DIY), hands-on practices that are inclusive, engaging, and accessible to all—especially youth with fewer opportunities.
The project empowered 27 youth workers from 9 different countries to enhance youth activism, civic engagement, and community participation, integrating a unique and impactful method into their daily youth work: solargraphy. This creative photography technique transforms recycled everyday materials—such as cans, bottles, or boxes—into pinhole cameras that capture long-exposure images using only sunlight.
Beyond its technical novelty, Solargraphy serves as a powerful metaphor for slow, intentional storytelling and reflection, aligning with the values of sustainability, patience, and creativity. Merging art, environmental awareness, and youth empowerment, the project created a holistic learning experience that resonates with both youth workers and the young people they mentor.
By the end of the project, participants equipped with skills to design and implement social campaigns in their communities that amplify the voices of young people and address topics such as climate action, mental health, inclusion, democracy, and human rights.
